Physical Exams

Regular physical exams are an important part of your pet’s overall health and wellness. These exams help us monitor changes over time and detect illness early. Depending on the age of your animal companion, we recommend different preventive treatments for cats and dogs. For all pets, we individualize exams depending on the age and lifestyle of your pet, allowing us to provide your pet with the high-quality care he or she deserves.

Vaccines

Vaccines protect your pet against dangerous illnesses and diseases. At Poulsbo Animal Clinic, we discuss core and optional vaccinations with you during each preventive exam. Our recommendations are customized to your pet’s age, lifestyle, and health status.

Common vaccines for dogs include:

  • Bordetella
  • Canine adenovirus (CAV)
  • Canine influenza (H3N2, H3N8)
  • Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo, Parainfluenza (DHPP)
  • Leptospirosis
  • Rabies

Common vaccines for cats include:

  • Feline calicivirus (FCV)
  • Feline herpesvirus 1 (FHV1)
  • Feline leukemia (FeLV)
  • Feline panleukopenia virus (FPV)
  • Rabies
  • Rhinotracheitis

Parasite Protection

Common pests, such as fleas, ticks, and intestinal parasites can put your pet at risk for serious illness. To protect your pet against these illnesses, we offer individualized parasite protection programs that are based on the specific needs of your pet, as well as his or her home environment. Some of these parasites are zoonotic (can be transmitted to people) and dangerous. We follow the recommendations of the Companion Animal Parasite Council.

Our protection programs often include year-round:

  • Flea and tick prevention
  • Heartworm medication
  • Education on pest prevention
  • Intestinal parasite management

Microchipping

Little KittenLosing an animal companion can be a frightening experience. At Poulsbo Animal Clinic, our goal is to help you find your pet as quickly as possible, which is why we offer microchip implantation for cats and dogs.

Microchip implantation is a quick and relatively painless procedure, where a scannable chip is placed under your pet’s skin. This chip contains a unique number that can be used to retrieve important information, such as owner name and address, that helps shelters and clinics around the country easily identify pets and reunite them with their families.
