What exactly is a pocket pet, you may ask?

The most common pocket pets include small animals from the rodent family, such as: ferrets, hamsters, gerbils, “fancy” mice, “fancy” rats and guinea pigs.

Dr. Amy McGee is trained to provide these special animals with the individualized care they require.  These special breeds require care in much the same way that companion animals do.

Many pocket pets, such as ferret and hamsters require spaying and neutering services to discontinue unwanted breeding, and routine examinations and diagnostics to lessen the chances of disease or alleviate conditions such as the parasitic infections of fleas, ticks and ear mites.  And don't forget about the nail trims and dental care they require.  Depending on the type of pocket pet you have, we will recommend an individualized plan based on its personal needs.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the care of your pocket pet, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.  We will be happy to schedule an appointment and provide the care your special critter needs to stay healthy and happy.

At Poulsbo Animal Clinic, we treat your pets like the valued family members they are.
